An interesting topic to discuss... Is there enough creativity in the NZ music industry??? Personnaly I think NZ musicians are missing out in the worldwide marketplace by not being innovative, it all is more of the same. No one really tries something new or does things different.
I'm not saying there isn't enough talent in NZ... I do think there are heaps of young musicians around that have the talent to be great. The big problem is that they all play the same kind of music and try to copy each other. What do you guys think???
Btw the reason I'm wondering this is because I'm a huge music fan and love going to gigs but I notice it's all the same. Especially in the Kiwi rock (hard rock, punk rock, regular rock etc) scene, there isn't enough drive to set themselves apart. I don't see any bands being really innovative.

Hot on the vapour trail of their chart-topping album 'Beautiful Machine', the finely-tuned rhythm-and-power unit Shihad are thrilled to announce a return home for a national tour in July.
The 'Beautiful Machine' Tour will see the group play six cities across New Zealand.
Those who missed the band's triumphant headline slot at April's Homegrown Festival now have another chance to experience Shihad in what is fast shaping up to be the groups' most successful and unforgettable year so far.
Support acts on all tour dates will be ex-pat heroes The Mint Chicks, returning from Portland, Oregon for their second NZ visit of 2008; and Luger Boa, the hard-hitting new act formed by Jimmy Xmas, formerly of the D4.
All shows will be MC'ed by Mr Dai Henwood, of TV's C4
G-TARanaki, the 1st New Zealand International Guitar Festival, will be held 15th to 19th July 2008 in New Plymouth, Taranaki. Centred on two full days of concert performances at the TSB Stadium, the event also features 3 days of exclusive shows across the region.
G-TARanaki also includes fringe events in the CBD bars and cafes, exhibitions, forums, workshops and acoustic sets – all held for the first time in New Zealand! This is an event for everyone, from ardent music fans to aspiring musicians, bringing together internationally renowned artists working and jamming with Kiwi talent and passing on their knowledge, experiences and skills.

Nienke bids Autumn farewell
25-01-2008
N ienke has decided to leave Autumn by the end of February. After long and careful deliberation, partly influenced by her recent health issues, Nienke has come to the decision that she would henceforth like to devote more of her time to her own band DejaFuse and her work at the Graveland Studio. Since Autumn is about to enter a new and time-consuming chapter, writing the follow-up to My New Time, the time has now come for Nienke to part ways with Autumn and set a new course for herself.
As we speak , Autumn is talking to a number of singers, exploring possibilities for a future together. In a few weeks’ time the new voice and face of Autumn will be announced.
To send Nienke on her way in style, there will be two farewell shows in Holland next month. These shows will take place on February 15 at Gigant in Apeldoorn and on February 16 at Nirwana in Lierop.

--- a break for After Forever ---

Dear fans,
as you might have noticed, After Forever experienced a lot in 2007.
A new deal with Nuclear Blast and The Entertainment Group, the release of a new album, gigs in Europe and the U.S.A./Canada, all thanks to your support.
Unfortunately, 2007 also had a negative side. Sander experienced the
symtoms of a burn-out and had to stop playing with After Forever for a
few months.
After Forever did a good job doing the scheduled gigs with mainly George (ex- Orphanage) as grunter, making possible the album could still be promoted.
After that, a European and an American/Canadian tour followed, with Sander this time, and his condition seemed to be ok.
Unfortunately, just recently, Sander fell victim to a seizure attack in
an airplane, and after research that attack seemed to be stress related.
The doctors think this is a very serious matter, and they strongly advised him to not be involved with any After Forever activity for at least a year, to prevent a worse health situation.
Because Sander is one of the formers, songwriter and co manager of After Forever, an After Forever without him is no option.
The band has been able to solve his absence in 2007 live, but another year full of compromises would not be positive for the quality After Forever wants to offer.
After Forever is a band that wants to give 100% and that's just not possible now.
With pain in our hearts, we had to decide that After Forever has to
take a break of at least a year and hope you will all repect that.
It's terrible not to be able to do all the great gigs and activities we were planning, but it's even worse for After Forever to do those things with a compromise.
We highly value everything the band has achieved, and we don't want to lose that.
We also realise we ask a lot of our fans since we know what our gigs and music means to them.
However, we will all still be active in the music scene. Because of this break everybody gets the chance to focus on projects.
On our site and myspace sites we'll keep you updated about those projects.
Not a very good start of the year, but thanks a lot for all your
support and understanding, for now, for the future, but also for the
past year.
We won't forget you and hope to meet you again if After Forever returns in full shape!!!

As Maiden isn't coming to New Zealand, I have no choice and go to Australia... At first it didn't look good but I finally managed to score a good deal on a flight to Sydney... YAH... Unfortunately all the standing tickets for the gig were already sold out so I had to go for the gold seated ones. Still an awesome ticket that allows me to see Eddie and the boys live down under!!!! A perfect start of 2008. Rock on!

Ayreon's new album looks awesome (as usual).... Great line-up of singers and instrumentalists. So looking forward to this one again... Wish it was January 2008 already.
